Inclusive Recreation 

Monthly Activities

Lewiston Parks and Recreation and Imagine Behavioral Services are teaming up for monthly activities. This program is for all abilities to participate in an Inclusive Recreation activity, also known as adaptive or accessible recreation. Inclusive Recreation is a concept whereby people with disabilities are given the opportunity to participate in recreational activities. The second Friday of every month October through April, Lewiston Parks and Recreation will host these activities at the Lewiston Community Center.

NEW Adaptive Recreation Crockpot Cooking Class (6 Weeks)

Rosanna (Ro) Pucci will be your instructor for this crock pot cooking class that will teach individuals how to prepare their own meals. Ro will prepare and cook her food every Friday morning using our kitchen facility and teach in a separate classroom on how it was done during the classroom session. Participants will gain recipes, knowledge and guidance during the class and will be able to try Ro’s delicious meals at the end of each class. Pre-registration is required.

Youth Activities 

 

Messy Hands Preschool Art Class and Playtime

Messy Hands Preschool Art Class and Playtime is a fun introduction to art with your favorite little person. All supplies are included. Projects vary from week to week and will be posted on Lewiston Parks and Recreation Facebook page - www.facebook.com/lewistonparksrecreation. Following art, kids are encouraged to play! This is a drop-in program.

Mommy and Me Playgroup

Lewiston Parks and Recreation will be continuing our popular playgroup at the Lewiston Community Center. During this time, the children play together and learn invaluable social skills while parents can talk and provide support for one another. Come join other parents from the LC Valley! Parents must stay and play. This is a drop-in program.

Steelhead Fishing for Youth

Idaho Fish and Game is offering a FREE clinic on Steelhead fishing for youth. Fish and Game officials will conduct a classroom clinic and information will be presented on life history of a steelhead, fishing gear, and various fishing techniques. Students will be paired with a mentor and will be able to go out for a day on a drift or jet boat to practice their new skills! “Every anadromous (ocean-going) fish that comes into Idaho, has to pass through our valley,” says fisheries biologist Scott Putnam. This clinic has been a tradition for many years and we are happy to share our skills with area youth.” Clinic participants are required to have a valid 2018 Idaho fishing license. Youth should be dressed for the weather and should bring a life jacket and lunch. Idaho Fish and Game will supply all the needed fishing gear/equipment, boats, fishing instruction and some snacks.
Boat trip limited to the first 20 participants. Pre-registration is required.

Rec Mobile Costume Night and Pumpkin Carving

Rec Mobile will be at Pioneer Park playing games for a special costume night. We will be playing spooky music and even helping carve pumpkins! Bring a pumpkin and we can provide the tools to help create some sinister pumpkins perfect for the looming holiday. Be sure to mark your calendar for this spooky edition of Rec Mobile. Provide your own pumpkin.

NEW STEAM Outdoors

Come join us in the LC Learning Garden for fun with science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM). We will get started with designing tools for harvesting energy such as solar ovens, windmills and turbines. We will then turn to investigating and creating with ways that nature makes color, and other ways of creating inspired by the garden. Children can expect to learn gardening and teamwork skills along the way. Pre-registration is required. Maximum # of students: 16.

Steelhead Fly Tying

This is your opportunity to join Leroy Hyatt in a class that will teach you the basics of fly tying for steelhead fishing. A syllabus of material learned and equipment required will be distributed before the first session. Each person will be required to furnish their own equipment and supplies; because of this you will end the course with a basic assortment of valuable equipment for future fly tying. Pre-registration is required.

Lunch Time Yoga Flow (September-December)

Kayla Sanders would like to introduce participants to all-inclusive yoga techniques that will benefit you wherever you are. Perfect to learn for the home or office, Kayla insists that deep stretches and proper technique can be obtained in this form of yoga. No materials required. Pre-registration required.

Lunch Time Chair Yoga (September-December)

Join Yoga instructor Kayla for an energetic and fluid yoga class that brings together postures, breathing and meditation in a dynamic moving sequence. Students are encouraged to move at their own pace as they become internally aware of the body, mind and breath working together. Modifications are incorporated for students to make this breath-centered practice accessible to all levels. Previous session experience not required. Pre-registration is required.

Amaze your friends and family by making your very own Thanksgiving Floral Arrangement using new professional techniques. Instructor, owner of Floral Artistry, Mike Hollenbeck AiFD will provide the materials and instruction for the class allowing you to make your own fresh flower arrangement.
