Duties

The Lewiston Planning and Zoning Commission is appointed by the Lewiston City Council in accordance with the Idaho Local Land Use Planning Act. They are citizen volunteers who provide recommendations to the City Council on land use issues within the City and the Area of City Impact.

The Commission holds public hearings on a number of land-use issues including zone changes, variances, conditional use permits, appeals, and comprehensive plan amendments. In addition, the Commission advises the City Council on long-range planning and land use issues.

The Commission meets twice a month on the second and fourth Wednesdays. The first meeting is generally set aside for public hearings; the second for more in-depth discussion on a variety of land use topics. Depending upon work load and applications received for land-use decisions  which require public hearings, meetings may either be held as a televised public meeting at 6:00 p.m. at the LCSC library telecommunications classroom or conducted as a work session at 5:30 p.m. the Lewiston Community Development Department Bell Building.  All meetings are open to the public.
