The City of Lewiston offers an integrated solid waste management system consisting of waste collection, waste reuse, recycling and waste disposal. The City's solid waste management system provides for safe and reliable solid waste services at competitive prices for residential and commercial customers.

Curbside solid waste, yard waste and recycling collection services are contracted through Sunshine Disposal & Recycling, Inc. (also know as Sanitary Disposal, Inc.) of Airway Heights, Washington. Sunshine Disposal & Recycling uses semi-automated and fully-automated vehicles for residential and commercial mobile cart service and semi-automated for other commercial services.

Residential and commercial customers eligible for mobile cart service may choose from a 32-gallon, 64-gallon, or 96-gallon cart service. The contracted service provider owns the mobile cart.  However, residential and commercial customers may purchase and use their own cart so long as it is compatible with service provider's equipment.

The Lewiston City Council sets the rates for mobile carts and all sanitation services. The residential rates for mobile carts include solid waste and yard waste collection and curbside recycling.  Commercial rates for mobile carts do not include yard waste collection.
