National Night Out
Drug and Crime Prevention Efforts
National Night Out (NNO) occurs in August of each year and it is a unique opportunity for the Cities of Lewiston, Idaho and Clarkston, Washington to join forces with thousands of other communities across the country in promoting police/community crime and drug prevention efforts.
National Night Out is designed to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs;
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
- Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, cities, towns, and neighborhoods celebrate NNO with a variety of events and activities such as:
- Block parties
- Visits from local police
- Flashlight walks
- Youth programs
In the past the Lewiston-Clarkston valley has shown their participation by gathering at Beachview Park in Clarkston, Washington. Numerous booths are set up including food, games, live music and prizes to be won. Families are encouraged to attend to support this event.
