Dennis W. Ohrtman
Councilor 2009
Dennis
is a Spanish and journalism instructor at Lewiston Senior High School. He also
serves as the advisor to the Bengal yearbook. Dr. Ohrtman is an Iowa native who
moved to Lewiston in 1969. His wife Carol was one of his students at LCSC.
Dennis has a B.A. from Augustana College; an M.A. degree from the University of
S.D.; and a Ph.D. from the U of I. His wife also holds matching degrees from
the U of I, WSU and the U of I. Dennis taught at LCSC from 1969-1981, and has
taught at Lewiston High since 1981. He is currently a member of the NCATE Board
of Examiners for college education program accreditation. Carol is also an
instructor at Lewiston High in English and Advanced Placement English. Carol
and Dennis have three children. Dr. Loralee Ohrtman teaches chemistry at
Oklahoma State University. Heather Ohrtman-Rogers teaches Spanish and English
at Jenifer Junior High. Eric is an interim minister (vicar) at Cormorant
Lutheran in Lake Park, MN.
Dennis' goals for
the City of Lewiston are to:
1) Work to
assure efficiency in City government; 2) Work to
create an environment of growth in business and industry while being respectful
of neighborhoods and safety; 3) Work to
engender trust in City government through
research and communication; 4) Support
LCSC as an integral and essential part of the economic and educational wealth of
the Valley; 5) Support the
construction of a new City library; and 6) Facilitate
the building of a new high school as a key to future economic development in the
Valley.
