The Lewiston Police Department is interested in assisting citizens in the appropriate processing of non-negotiable checks. If the reason that the check is not honored by the bank is due to non-sufficient funds, the account being closed, or the signature being a forgery, the passer of the check may be guilty of a criminal offense. Because of the complexity of the circumstances in many of these cases, the police department has developed a process that will assist the recipient and our department to expedite the processing and final resolution of the matter. You will be given a two-sided document for completion. On one side the document "Lewiston Police Department Check Statement" and on the other side "Lewiston Police Department Check Investigative Information" must be completed by the person actually accepting the check. Upon completion, the person or employee accepting the check will contact the Police Department Investigative Section by telephone (208-746-0171) and make an appointment to discuss the matter further with an investigator. If circumstances warrant, an appropriate criminal investigation, the recipient will be expected to provide appropriate testimony if the suspect is ultimately arrested and prosecuted. In the event that a check is determined to be a forgery, an additional document "Affidavit of Forgery" will also be required. School Resource Officers (SRO) The responsibilities of a School Resource Officer(s) are many, but include the following: Interaction with students, school staff and personnel; act as a counselor for both students and school personnel; act as a department liaison with various agencies in the area, investigate incidents that occur at the schools and to conduct follow-up investigations that pertain to juvenile crime; and acts as a reference source. Major Collision Investigation Team (MCIT) The Lewiston Police Department has established a group of officers specially trained in collision investigation. These officers have received additional hours of training in collision investigation and are called out to assist patrol officers with fatal collisions and/or major injury collisions. The Major Collision Investigation Team consists of a Lieutenant, two (2) Sergeants, a Corporal and two (2) patrol officers. They are on-call to respond to the accident scene once the on-duty field supervisor determines a need for the team. The mission of the Quad City Task Force is to operate an enhanced multi-jurisdictional task force to combat the trafficking of controlled substances in the quad city area (Lewiston, Clarkston, Moscow, Pullman). The member agencies work together and share information in order to identify people involved in distribution, sale, manufacture, possession, and consumption of controlled substances, to develop solid, prosecutable cases against them, and to apprehend and convict them for their illegal conduct.
