    Radar Trailer

The Lewiston Police Department has a tool to assist with traffic control and enforcement; it is the speed trailer. The speed trailer is used in conjunction with a traffic officer in areas where speeding vehicles are a problem. First, by reminding drivers of what the speed limit is, and displaying the current speed of the vehicle to the driver. Second, through enforcement action (tickets) in the area of the trailer's use. The trailer was obtained by the Lewiston Police Department through a grant from the Office of Highway Safety.

    Child Seatbelts

From 1992 to 2001, 33 children between the ages of 4 and 8 were killed in Idaho passenger vehicle crashes.  Of those, 18 were unrestrained.

Idaho Code 49-672 states no noncommercial motor vehicle shall transport a child who is 6 years of age or younger unless they are properly secured in a child safety restraint that meets the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard #213.  This provision shall not apply when the child is removed from the car safety restraint and held by the attendant for the purpose of nursing the child or attending the child's other immediate physiological needs.
