HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE:

Household Hazardous Wastes are the unused, leftover portions of household products that may be harmful to humans, the environment, or wildlife. Look for the words: caution, warning, danger or flammable, toxic, corrosive, reactive. When purchasing products of this type, consider the following:
Residents of the City of Lewiston and those Nez Perce County residents on the County Solid Waste Collection System can dispose of the following types of Household Hazardous Waste at Lewiston's Solid Waste Transfer Station at no additional charge:
Used motor oil- maximum size container limited to 5 gallons. See attendant. Used oil must be tested prior to disposal. Contaminated oil goes in a separate storage tank
Antifreeze- maximum size container limited to 5 gallons
paint (latex and oil base)- maximum size container limited to 5 gallons
household batteries
Other household hazardous waste items like pesticides, cleaners, gasoline, and solvents may be disposed of at no additional charge at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at the Asotin County Regional Landfill located at 2901 6th Avenue in the Clarkston heights. This facility is open every Wednesday and the first and third Saturdays of each month between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Call 758-1965 before planning a trip to this facility, as there are certain restrictions.

COMMERCIAL GENERATED HAZARDOUS WASTES ARE NOT ACCEPTED AT EITHER THE TRANSFER STATION OR THE ASOTIN COUNTY HHW FACILITY.
Note: Those businesses classified as Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generators may dispose of used oil, antifreeze, oil based paints and related solvents, and batteries at the Asotin County facility. Pre-registration is required and there is a fee. For more information call (509) 758-1965.
