Proposed Bicycle Routes

for Lewiston

After collecting surveys for a period of roughly 6 weeks, the City of Lewiston has identified a bicycle route master plan.  The map identifying preferred bicycle routes was formed based on survey responses and comments from participants.  The final map combines elements of each of the three previous options into one plan that will effectively provide for safe and efficient bicycle travel.  By encouraging bicycle travel, the City of Lewiston will help to reduce traffic congestion as well as noise and air pollution caused by automobiles.  Those who choose to bicycle are also improving their health through cardiovascular exercise.  Communities that are consistently recognized as comfortable, friendly places to live and visit are usually bicycle friendly and have facilities to encourage bicycle travel.  The League of American Bicyclists evaluates communities for their bicycle friendliness.  Idaho’s Ada County has a bronze rating (ratings go from bronze to platinum).  Our goal is to get the City of Lewiston on that list too!

            At this point, surveys and comments are still needed.  Statistics gathered from the surveys will be used in applying for funds to pay for bicycle facility projects.  More completed surveys indicate public participation and desire for such projects and increases the chance of funding.  Comments are still welcome as this map can undergo change if other alternative routes would better serve cyclists.  If there are changes that you would like to see, please let us know!  After the survey and/or comments are completed, please return these to the City of Lewiston in one of the following ways.  Thank you very much for your interest and participation in this project.
