The City of Lewiston, as a Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI) employer, wants to make sure you have the information you need when considering retirement. Questions about PERSI, healthcare, Social Security and Medicare often make the process seem daunting. Hopefully, the information on this page will answer some of those questions.
Retiree Health Plan
The City is excited to announce that as of January 1, 2020, Retirees that meet certain eligibility requirements will have the option to enroll in a Retiree Health Plan administered by the City of Lewiston. Retirees must complete Regence and Delta Dental enrollment forms and turn them in to Human Resources by the last day of the month in which they retire. For information regarding eligibility, cost, coverage, etc. please contact Human Resources.
PERSI needs to hear from you sooner rather than later! It takes a minimum of 60 days to process your retirement paperwork. You must call them to obtain an estimate and they would prefer 3 to 6 months notice.
Many employees find that a visit to PERSIs Coeur D’Alene office can be incredibly helpful but you can also call 800-451-8228 for assistance. PERSI customer service will ask you a few questions and you will receive the estimate in 2 to 3 weeks. They will also include the actual "Retirement Kit" which is 18 pages.
The advantage of completing the Retirement Application Kit (PDF) on the website and then printing, is that all of your personal information is auto-filled into the required pages. Fill out as much of the form as you can, then print. You can fill in the other items and sign. This Checklist from PERSI (PDF) will answer many of your questions
The brochures at the PERSI Idaho website will answer additional questions regarding your PERSI:
- Benefit withdrawal
- Buying service credits
- Much more
If you have any questions regarding Social Security - please contact the local Social Security Administration or go to the Social Security website and login to get an estimate of benefits. The website will guide you through setting up an account if you have never logged in before and you can even apply for Social Security retirement.
