Your Community Park Update

The Parks and Recreation Department has been working diligently to create a Master Plan that encompasses as many of the wants and needs that the community has suggested over the past 18 years in this 187-acre site that was originally purchased along with the Lewiston School District and Lewis-Clark State College as part of a 310-acre Tri-Partnership development in 2004. The college has built and is operating the Schweitzer Career and Technical Education Center at the site and the new Lewiston High School has been developed and opened as well in the past few years. We saw this time as the best to move forward with our park planning and have partnered with JUB Engineers to do just that. Please visit our website which has been specifically created for the Lewiston Community Park project and take 360-degree views of many of the proposed amenities. This website will be a specific and evolving resource for the community to check in and see what progress has been taking place in the design and development of the facility. There is always an opportunity to review and provide feedback regarding the plan, as it will evolve over the years as development occurs.

In the coming year, funding strategies will be developed by staff with the assistance of consultants, the Parks and Recreation Commission, and the Lewiston City Council. These sources will include a number of different funding options to consider (bonds, hotel/motel bed tax, naming rights, in-kind services, etc.). There will be more to come moving forward with this exciting local and regional facility that will be a model for economic growth and community partnerships for many years to come!
