Mike was born and raised in Southern Idaho where he graduated from Parma Senior High School. He went on to graduate from Boise State University (Bachelor’s Degree), then on to the University of Utah (Master’s Degree). He spent a little over a year working for Intermountain Health Care as an Exercise Physiologist in their cardiology program with a primary focus in cardiac rehab. Mike then moved to Lewiston in the summer of 1996 to begin work on his Ph.D. in Education at the University of Idaho, which he completed in 1999.
In the fall of 1997, Mike began coaching for Lewis-Clark State’s cross country program. Since then, his position at the college has grown where he was both teaching and coaching. He has been a member of the faculty senate and a number of committees on campus. In the coaching ranks, he was the president of the NAIAs Cross Country Coach’s Association and has also been named Frontier Conference Coach of the Year ten times. His women’s cross country team has the longest streak in the nation of being ranked in the top 25 where they have been ranked since the fall of 2001.
Mike is married to Tracy (Saxton), who also works for the college, and is the father of two girls (Kassie and Emily). He is active in local fun runs and community events and enjoys fly fishing, bird hunting, old cars and spending time with his family.
