5th Street & Bryden Ave Intersection - Project Complete
This project has been completed! Public Works thanks you for your patience and support in completing these much needed improvements.
Roadways wear down over time until it eventually needs repairs or an overall reconstruction. Bryden Avenue is one of Lewiston's most trafficked arterial roads and, in addition to normal wear and tear, increased traffic and development have created a higher demand for use of this roadway.
What is the project?
A mill and overlay is recommended as a more cost effective method than reconstruction for improving the roadway safety. A full reconstruction of this intersection will be a part of a future Bryden Avenue Reconstruction Project but this interim improvement is necessary to improve safe use of the intersection.
When will construction begin?
Construction will begin Monday, October 9th at 6:00 AM and is anticipated to be completed in two days. As with all construction, unforeseen conditions may occur which could alter schedules. If that happens, we ask for your cooperation and patience.
Where will construction be taking place?
The construction will occur at the intersection of 5th Street and Bryden Avenue.
You can determine where your home or business is located in relation to the project by entering your address in the interactive City of Lewiston General Map's search bar.
How will I get where I need to go?
The intersection will be closed to complete this work but access to all properties will remain open. Detours will be set up to guide through traffic around the intersection via 4th Street, 6th Street, Warner Avenue, Preston Avenue, and Burrell Avenue; the 5th Street and Bryden Avenue - Detour Map (PDF) is shown below:
Check with the Transit Department for any changes to routes as a result of this construction.
Motorists and pedestrians should anticipate delays during construction - we appreciate your patience while this much needed work is underway.
How will I be notified?
On September 1, 2023, the Public Works Department issued advanced notice letters to property owners and residents from 4th Street to 6th Street, Warner Avenue to Burrell Avenue. The Lewiston Independent School District No. 1's Transportation Supervisor was mailed this advanced notice letter as well.
The last week of September, a postcard went out to that same mailing list providing them with information on the construction start date and the contacts for the project.
