Do you currently own space at the Normal Hill Cemetery that you don't plan to use? If so, we have an opportunity for you!
Lewiston's Normal Hill Cemetery is 132 years old, and currently at 90% capacity.
Starting October 1, 2020, the City of Lewiston will buy back plots at the Cemetery that are not currently being used. Roughly 2,000 plots have been purchased and not used, and approximately 400 additional plots are available for purchase out of a total of 20,000 at capacity.
"The purpose of this buy back program is to help expand inventory to offer more options to the community prior to further developing the site," Parks and Recreation Director Tim Barker said.
The City will buy back plots at the price they were purchased, at a minimum of $100. Meaning, for example, if you purchased a plot for $50, the City will purchase the space from you for $100. Likewise, if you purchased a plot for $250, the City will purchase the space from you for $250.
"If folks have purchased plots and plan to use them in the future, that's perfectly alright," Barker said. "This just gives those who currently own plots and don't plan to use them an opportunity to sell."
